Contributions forums - free application-based membership required

As of January 15th, 2006, new members will be able to access the Contributions forums by applying for free membership.

All you need to do is sign up for a free account as a Runboard member at Runboard.com and then visit this board. When you click on a Contributions thread, you'll be asked to indicate in the text field on the page that comes up why you wish to join this board. Just enter your comments and click "Submit".

There will then be a brief delay until the administrator(s) is able to process your request. Leaving a comment is optional, but it allows the administrator(s) to learn a little bit about you and why you wish to join.

Other boards have introduced application-based membership in response to a number of isolated incidents involving "trolls", a term used to describe internet users who seem intent on spoiling the general atmosphere of an online board by posting spam and material in breach of the rules and guidelines of those boards. That's why we've taken this step, in order to provide a more positive atmosphere in which people can visit and contribute material to this board.

At this time, the membership requirement covers only the Contributions section of this forum. All other forums will remain free to access for everyone, as long as the rules of this board are observed.

All memberships to this board created before January 15th, 2006 will carry over, there likely won't be any problems for those members. But if problems do arise, just re-apply for membership, and you'll get back in as soon as your membership application is processed.

Some users may run into problems if they log off of Runboard, then log back on, or if they clean out their cookies; in this case, just re-apply for membership and you'll get back in fairly quickly.

Please submit one application at a time for membership, and please be patient, we will process your application as soon as possible.

Thank You.

Re: Contributions forums - free application-based membership required

Some more details about how to apply for free membership.

When you try to enter the Contributions section of this board for the first time, you will likely see this message.

"Sorry, no access.
The reason is you dont have access to this particular forum.
You must be a member of this particular forum in order to read.
The membership is attained on a application/approval basis."

"Please enter optional comments and hit the button to send your application to the administrators of the board."

Enter a brief comment saying why you want to become a member, and click the button. Entering a comment is optional, but it helps us to find out a little more about your interests in this board.

It may take a little while, but not too long, for your application to be processed. Once your application is either approved or rejected, you'll get an e-mail saying if you have been granted access to this board.

Note: only the Contributions forums are affected by the membership application requirement.

If you previously posted in another section of this board (which gave you an automatic membership to this board), but have not yet posted anything in the Contributions forums, it's possible that you may have to apply for membership in order to make your first post in the Contributions forums. If that happens, just follow the instructions to re-apply, and you'll get back in fairly quickly. If this causes you any inconvenience, we apologize.

If you're already a member, and you're able to get in to the Contributions section without re-applying, then you're okay to post.

In addition, if you're not already a member of Runboard, you'll need to create your own user account at Runboard.com before you can apply. Just go to http://www.runboard.com and click on "Register", then follow the instructions.

If you wish to register with other Runboard boards, we recommend choosing a "Global Account", this will allow you to access multiple boards. A "Local Account" will only allow you to access one board, and you'll need to go through the whole process again when joining another Runboard.

Any further questions may be answered on the Runboard Support Forums at http://com5.runboard.com/bakheva

(And in case you're wondering about the extra "b" in our URL, every Runboard has that "b" in its URL.)

Thanks for your support.
