Re: Wow.... Yes, true, there's really not much onscreen right now. Besides an occasional scene here and there on 'Once Upon a Time', I don't think there's been much decent swordplay content onscreen since 'Force Awakens' (Daisy Ridley was superb). Haven't seen 'Batman v. Superman' yet, but Gal Gadot may have a scene in that one (she deserves one with her reportedly limited screen time).
My guess is that a really good scene sometimes sneaks under the radar, but nowadays, if it's not featured in a promo, you often don't even know about it until after it airs. And Hollywood's ongoing war on Fair Use isn't helping the clip-sharing community at all, of course (search for the hashtag #WTFU to see how some YouTube producers are responding to that).
I wish I was a Hollywood producer, so I could cast the likes of Natalie Dormer or Catherine Zeta-Jones or even Megan Fox as a heroine in a period dress kicking @#$ in a good old-fashioned swashbuckler. Seriously, good old-fashioned swashbucklers with great female characters are one of the best ideas in Hollywood that haven't been fully tapped yet, or tapped in a long time, for that matter.
I'm sure things will pick up a little in the coming weeks, with Artistic Fencing season starting up again in Europe, we often get good videos popping up from there.
But you know what Hollywood producers are like nowadays when it comes to original ideas. They're like the Antarctic penguins in opera singer Nick Allen's viral video from last week when he tried to introduce them to the concept of opera for the very first time.
Might as well go watch Daisy kick Adam Driver's butt again. Help pass the time until the long-overlooked Rey merchandise finally arrives at my local Disney Store.
